The date of knowledge rule is crucial for industrial disease claims. The three-year limitation period does not run from the date of exposure or even the date symptoms first appeared. For conditions like noise-induced hearing loss, this may be the date of an audiogram that reveals occupational hearing damage. For asbestosis, it may be the date of a chest X-ray or CT scan.
